NEW DELHI: The Coronavirus pandemic has severely affected the way education is moving forward this year, and now, in a rather surprising turn of events, Delhi has decided to cancel exams for diploma students, including those studying in the final year. The marks will be calculated on the basis of internal submissions as well as marks in the past semester.

As has been issued by the Board of Technical Education (BTE), Delhi Government, with a notice, all institutes as well as polytechnics will not have any semester exams for the year 2020 for the diploma programs. The notification suggested that the marks will be on the basis of equal weightage given to internals and the previous year’s performance.

Meanwhile, students who did not pass any of the semesters earlier will have to give the compartment exams which will take place next year. Meanwhile, in addition, those students with compartments in previous semesters will also be allowed to have an extra additional year to complete their diploma and pass across all semesters.

While the provisions are simple, the students also do have the option to write the exams at a later date, whenever that may be, in case he/she wishes to get better results in a particular subject.

Meanwhile, the debate regarding the final year exams continues to escalate further given that the Delhi Government did go on to admit that it is having a difficult time to conduct them and the hearing regarding the same is due in the Supreme Court given that the cancellation of exams for final year degree students is against the guidelines issues by the University Grants Commission. The hearing is due to be held on August 14, 2020.
