New Delhi: The Coronavirus pandemic has led to things moving rather slow and while there continue to be updated regarding various aspects of education, it has rendered institutes and students worried for more reasons than one. And now, extensions of various projects, among other dates often come to the limelight. And so, comes the news about Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Indian Army renewing the agreement for Army Educational Project (IAEP).

An interesting fact about this project is how the first-ever MoU was signed back in 1999. The MoU was dated May 24, 1999, and following the years to come, it continues to get extended since then periodically with a gap of 5 years.

With the said project, the university attempts to also provide academic programmes to the defence personnel along with the families on a single-window basis. The release that was put out by the university, went on to mention the same and is also added about the RRCs being placed across various cities like Kolkata, Jaipur, and a few others. It stated, “Under IAEP, Recognised Regional Centres (RRC) have been established in six Army HQ Commands under a single-window operational basis. Regional Services Division (RSD) of IGNOU works as the nodal point to facilitate smooth functioning of RRCs across the country.’’

While extending the academic programmes to those from defence backgrounds and the families, this service allows educational opportunities to the students without having to dislocate the aspirants from where they are apart from the time of the exams and the counselling sessions. This, therefore, is a rather thoughtful move and has been ideated to enable education while also not disturbing the otherwise routine schedule all year round.

Recently, it has also started a new course through open as well as distance mode for Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry. For this, the students will simply need to have their class 12 pass certificates in the PCB subjects and the applications are open until August 31, 2020.

Meanwhile, there was also an announcement regarding the TEE exams for 2020 as they will now be taking place a little later and not in the first week. In fact, the admit cards as well as the date sheets are expected to be out in a couple of days, thereby causing a delay in the September 2020 exams for final year students.
