New Delhi: The final year exams continue to be a matter of concern and while a concrete announcement is on its way, there are Universities and Institutions who have decided to go ahead with the exams for final year students. And now, as has been informed to the SC, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given permission to the institutions to open the institutes in a limited capacity for the same. This comes after the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) guidelines to conduct exams.

As has been written in the affidavit filed by MHA, the decision comes keeping in mind the interest of students, however, a lot does depend on what is decided by the SC regarding the petitions opposing UGC’s guidelines to conduct exams.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) requested MHA to allow opening colleges and other educational institutions and as has been replied by the Union Home Secretary on July 6, an exemption has been granted in order to conduct exams and evaluations for final year students, and only that.

Meanwhile, both Delhi and Maharashtra governments have opposed UGC’s decision of conducting exams and have gone on to cancel the exams putting forward the point that the decision comes under the Disaster Management Act.

Meanwhile, the tussle around the final year exams for these two states continue and a decision is expected regarding the same by the apex court today. However, throughout this time, UGC has stood by its decision as it feels that no exams will only affect the standard of higher education for such students.
