Varanasi: Due to the ongoing coronavirus situation in the country, a lot of changes and alterations are being made in the way education is going to be received, at least for this academic year, until things get better. And now, as has been announced by the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), they are now planning to work out assignment-based exams for all students in their final as well as terminal years.

The notification that has been issued by BHU went on to state how the university has decided to hold assignment-based assessments for both, intermediate as well as final semester students for the academic year that has gone by. While these assignments will be sent by teachers through available digital services, students will have to send them back after completion within 15 days.

In addition, BHU has also informed that for students whose courses had already concluded by March i.e. before the shutdown of educational institutions, they can opt for these exams. As far as the final marks for these students are concerned, it will be the best of the marks obtained in the terminal as well as the assignment-based assessments.

For the final year students, their final marks will be calculated in a ration of 30:70, of which 30% marks will be constituted by their final semester exams and 70% will constitute the marks obtained in the terminal semester exams. As for the intermediate semester students are concerned, they will be promoted to the next year without having to meet with the minimum 4.0 grade criteria. Meanwhile, their marks will be based on 50:50 ration obtained in assignment-based assessment and the terminal exams.

None the less, students can improve their marks in the next year, when the exams are taken next while those who have backlogs will also have to clear them during the next examination schedule.
