Mumbai: For the longest time now, students have been waiting to receive updates regarding the final year exams as the Coronavirus outbreak has caused trouble and led to a delay. While the Supreme Court ruled out that the final year exams are mandatory in agreement with the guidelines laid out by the University Grants Commission, it also stated that universities can get an extension beyond September 2020.
And now, reports have it that the Mumbai University has zeroed in on the final year exams for students. As has been decided after meetings on Saturday, it will be holding exams online and these are going to be multiple choice questions. While it was already decided that the exams will take place in October, these exams are going to be an hour-long and will carry 50 marks. Meanwhile, the viva as well as practical exams will also be conducted online- via phone or through digital apps. The ATKT and all other exams too will be held online in a similar manner.
New schedules of tentative time for the final year exams across various universities in different states keep coming in. However, given that these exams are not going to be proctored or supervised, except for Pune University (SPPU), there have been doubts raised as far as the method is concerned given the credibility.
The updates also suggest that the practical exams for Mumbai University students will begin from September 15, 2020, while there will be exams from September 25-30 for the same. The theory exams, on the other hand, are going to take place from October 1 to October 17, 2020. The exams will start off with commerce students since that section has the largest number.
The guidelines, on the other hand, will be released soon and colleges are going to work in clusters with the lead college taking lead for the constituent colleges that are a part of the cluster. Meanwhile, faculty members are also supposed to share question banks and hand it over to the lead colleges.
