New Delhi: The coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc in more ways than just one. While lives are going on, various aspects of it have come to a halt as free movement is not possible. And well, the biggest hit that has been received is that by students given that these were the time for new academic sessions, exams, etc.

And now, in lieu of the same, a medical aspirant appealed to the Delhi High Court to work around the eligibility criteria of the pre-requisite NEET qualification for her future studies abroad. This was with reference to her soon to begin the course, which is supposed to start in Uzbekistan.

As has been directed by the Medical Council of India in the March 2019 gazette notification, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is now mandatory for people seeking admission to MBBS courses abroad. And now, in a situation like this when the candidate has moved up to the High Court after approaching relevant authorities first, Justice V Kameswar Rao now asked the MCI in after having consulted with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to think over the petition and thereby, come to a conclusion within 3 weeks.

In addition, it has also recorded the submission from MCI’s counsel T Singhdev and Ankit Raj, who went on to ensure that the matter will speed up and complied with. The said candidate is looking at pursuing her UG Medical course from an Institute in Uzbekistan and August 20 is the final submission date. While she has specified why her NEET qualification is a problem, the exams will take place on September 13, and it was not possible for her to keep up with this criterion for admission abroad.

This is the third date for the NEET exams this year as it was also delayed before this one. All that this plea urges for is to provide an exemption so as to allow admission to the said university for the current academic year.
