New Delhi: Educational institutions have been shut for the longest time now and as has been announced in the guidelines for Unlock phase 3, they will continue to remain shut even in the upcoming month. The decision regarding when to go back to regular functioning is yet to be taken. Meanwhile, the esteemed Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, has launched a new certificate program for Solid Waste Management, and this time at home might as well be put to use rather effectively.

Given the economics of India as a country and how we are growing in terms of consumerism, IGNOU’s solid waste management programme will enable students to understand its key elements, including the financial, social, and other aspects of it along with the challenges that are being faced while understanding about appropriate solutions to the problems.

Some of the objectives of this programme include teaching the students about a waste generation at large, making them aware of the legislations and other required knowledge in place while preparing them to be able to efficiently handle solid waste.

The eligibility criteria for the programme is 10+2 while the fee is Rs 3,600. However, the instructions will be in Hindi, this is a distance learning programme and can last from six months to two years. There are a total of 3 courses that are offered including Introduction to Solid Waste Management, Municipal, Agricultural, Industrial and Hazardous Waste Management and Plastic, E-waste, Biomedical and Construction and Demolition Waste management. Each course holds 6 credits.
