Mumbai: The final year exams for students across various states has been the topic of discussion for the longest time now. While it was only in its last verdict that the Supreme Court ruled out any scope of passing students without exams, it did allow the states to ask for an extension to conduct the exams after all. And now, as for Maharashtra is concerned, the final year exams are likely to happen in the state in the first week of October while they expect to release the results by the end of October itself.

As of now, the updates are just about the month for the exams and the schedule along with other modalities are going to be released once the committee of vice chancellors chalks out a plan. As has been told by Uday Samant, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister, the committee is trying to consider various options. The said committee is headed by Mumbai University VC Suhas Pednekar.

It was after SC’s decision on the final year exams that the state government formed a committee with 6 members and a report has been submitted by them on Monday. Out of the 13 universities in the state, 11 will be conducting there exams in the month of October and have asked an extension for the same while other two, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati and Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik sought for an extension until November 10. Now, the proposal will be sent to the UGC, as per the guidelines ruled out during the verdict and a decision will be made.

In addition, CM Uddhav Thackeray is also going to discuss the exam schedule in a meeting with the Disaster Management authority for the state. As has been reported, while students will be giving these exams from their homes and will not have to step out, these exams could be online, open book, or in the form of assignments. As has also been told, a plan should be ready by Wednesday and the committee will ensure that no one has to come to the exam centre. Lastly, the papers that will be set will have lesser marks than the usual in order to make them seamless and simpler.
