Chennai: The final year exams continue to be mandatory and while the pleas opposing the exam have been rejected, the verdict from Supreme Court did provide provisions for the exam dates. As has been now announced, the students in the final year cannot be promoted without exams since it affects the quality of education, universities have been trying to find a way to comply, with little to no option available. The exams are supposed to be taken by September 30, however, states and UTs can ask for an extension under the disaster management act and will have to provide representation before the UGC.

And now, as is being reported, the Tamil Nadu government is currently considering taking the final Year Exams for 2020 online. The education department is currently considering online exams for the state. It was on Saturday that a meeting was held by the department in the presence of Vice chancellors from the state universities. Among other discussions at the meeting, it is also being said that the logistics of the duration and the type of questions were also worked out during a meeting with multiple vice-chancellors having suggested objective questions. However, there were also some who were keen on having a mixed type question paper with the objective as well as descriptive questions depending on the particular subject.

An official has informed TOI that the universities in the state will need to have a question bank for the online exams and that is going to be a time consuming process. Hence, it has been suggested that they be shared with the universities and in addition, for those having trouble writing the exams online or connectivity issues, the institutions can be used.

Meanwhile, as per reports, Anna University plans to conduct exams online within the next two weeks and these will be objective questions and go on for an hour. The state has already canceled the arrear exams as far as other semesters are concerned post a meeting that happened on Wednesday.
