KOLKATA: The reopening of schools and colleges has been a growing concern, however, the seems to be no hurry from the government to do so as effective online models are being put to work. Meanwhile, as has been announced by the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, the lockdown in the containment zones is going to last until August 31 along with the biweekly restrictions in the city.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee also made an announcement regarding the schools and colleges being shit until August 31 and that a decision regarding the same will be taken in September. Total lockdown will be in place on the following dates – August 2, 5, 8, 9, 16, 17, 23, 24 and 31.
In addition, she also did highlight how given the idea is to hold the biweekly lockdown on weekends, with the likes of Independence Day and Eid falling on Saturdays, there will also be other days when the lockdown will remain effective.
The idea of biweekly lockdown came into place this month given the suspicions regarding the spread of the virus through community transmission. Hence, if the recovery from the virus is at a higher rate, a decision about reopening schools and colleges will in September.
With an aim to improve the virus situation in the state, the CM has also tried to attain the target of achieving 25,000 tests per day by mid-month next month, which is currently at 17,000.
Meanwhile, the lockdown situation in West Bengal has received a lot of flak for various reasons. In fact, the opposition parties have also raised many questions about the containment of the virus. None the less, Banerjee has been trying possibly effective methods in order to stop the virus from spreading despite the sharp reactions.
As far as the numbers are concerned, the state has recorded over 60,000 positive cases of Corona while there are 1,194 containment zones. It has over 1400 deaths but a good recovery rate with 42,022 recovered patients so far.
