New Delhi: The NEET and JEE Main exams continue to be a topic of debate as many want the exams to be postponed. While the idea is to put the interest of students first, and now, seven chief ministers have decided to take this up to the Supreme Court, and parties like DMK and AAP have also joined the argument.

At the meeting convened by Sonia Gandhi during one of the sessions, it has been decided to file a review petition in order to urge the SC to reconsider its decision. Among the CMs who were a part of the meeting, including the likes of Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Amarinder Singh, Hemant Soren, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupeh Baghel and V Narayanasamy.

The idea behind this step is to help students out, especially with states like Assam and Bihar already dealing with another disaster. Rahul Gandhi, has also urged the government of India to listen to everyone and find a solution regarding the same. Congress has also started a campaign – #SpeakUpForStudentSaftey.

Among others, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has also gone on to express his opinion regarding the exams and added how there must be alternative methods that the government must come up with. He also raised the question of the safety of lakhs of students while wondering how is there an assurance that they will not be infected. The debate is one that is never ending and with the said decision to move to the SC, the chief ministers are trying to speak up for the hardships that the students are facing.

With the likes of Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi asserting their opinions, the Punjab CM too, agrees to them about the atmosphere not being right to conduct physical exams. And now, Banerjee has decided that if the Centre cannot make an appeal to the SC, it is the states that will have to come together. Thackeray too, was in agreement of postponing the exams given the COVID-19 cases.

In addition, with 23 MLAs being down with COVID in Punjab, it is rather alarming as to what is the situation on ground and how this is not the time for exams, as has been told by Singh. Hence, he suggested to move to SC to postpone the exams since they are a threat to the lives of lakhs of students while both Gehlot and Baghel were in agreement. Meanwhile, Narayanasamy adds that the central government will be responsible if the exams lead to a rise in COVID cases.

While the  NEET exams are due to be held on September 13, the JEE Main will take place from September 1-6.
