New Delhi: The NEET and JEE Main 2020 exams have been the centre of discussion for days now. While a section of the government is not keen on the exams being held in the month of September 2020, there seems to be little to no way out. And now, the proposal from the Delhi government to postpone these exams has been rejected by the Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal. He has given a nod for carrying out the exams in the city despite a strong opposition raised by the Delhi government regarding the same. Given the pandemic, these objections have been raised keeping in mind the best interests of students and their safety.

The proposal was rejected on Saturday during the DDMA meeting (Delhi Disaster Management Act). As has been told by sources to PTI, the government of Delhi had told in the fil sent to L-G that the exams should not be held given the safety of the students is concerned. While Delhi CM was also against holding the said exams, L-G has returned the file and decided to give a nod anyway.

These exams are going to be held in September 2020 and will witness 24 lakh students write them. While the government in states and UTs is trying to make necessary arrangements for the students writing the entrance exams, there also seems to be a lot of issues otherwise. Meanwhile, in an appeal to the alumni of IIT Delhi, the director urged them to enable students to reach the centres on time and help them out.

While the decision seems to be final, there are six ministers from opposition-rules states that have also urged the SC to review the order to conduct the exams given the pandemic situation in the country.

With the exam dates here already, chances of any new updates seem grim.
