The COVID-19 situation has definitely been a little dilly dally for more reasons than one. While educational institutes are likely to begin opening up from the next month, a lot is happening via online tests and classes. While updates regarding admissions and tests keep coming, the latest is one about the application for Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) aspirants, looking forward to pursuing PG courses. The applications will start from August 10 and the first step in that is to write the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2021. While the exam is scheduled for February 14, 2021, the final date for applications is October 15, 2020.

The JAM 2021 allows aspirants to seek admission across various degrees including the likes of MSc, joint MSc-PhD, MSc-PhD dual degree, and other programmes at the esteemed institutes. Meanwhile, the first session is going to focus on biotechnology, mathematical science, and physics while session two focuses on chemistry, economics, geology, and mathematics. As per the recent updates, the results are due to be out on March 20.

A computer-based test, the JAM 2021 will be held online and candidates have the choice to write two exams, however, they will have to figure out the sessions for the same. The test is a mix of MCQs, multiple selection questions, and numerical answer type questions.

The admissions for JAM 2020 will be on a merit basis depending on the available number of seats and the fee for one test is Rs 1500 while that for two is Rs 2100. Meanwhile, those belong to reserved categories, have to pay Rs 750 and Rs 1050, respectively. In order to qualify for the JAM 2021 tests, students must have either 55%/5.5 out of 10 CGPS in their respective degrees. However, for the reserved categories, it is 50% and no rounding off of the marks is allowed.

Meanwhile, through the JAM exams, students can also seek admission to various other institutes like NITs, SLIET Punjab, among other centrally-funded technical institutions.
