Mumbai: The Coronavirus pandemic has definitely been difficult on everyone, and while it has been advised to maintain certain norms and practice basic protocol, a lot of fields have been suffering and education happens to be one of them since schools and colleges are shut ever since the lockdown was first imposed.

And while online classes have been going on for a while now, it is not the same as offline learning and it can be quite taxing for students, especially the kids in schools. And hence, in another attempt to take a decision in the best of their interests, the Maharashtra Government has taken the decision to reduce the syllabus for students from classes 1 to 12 by 25%. Given the increased burden on everyone, this might come as a relief to the students given the ongoing pandemic situation.

The decision was announced by the Maharashtra Government on Saturday as it is indeed the need of the hour in such testing times. School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has also stated that the information regarding the lessons that have been omitted are going to be available for viewing on the official website of Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (MSCERT).

As was announced via a notice, the Government is currently reaching out to parents to take suggestions on when should the schools possibly reopen and further measures/expectations that parents have as and when it happens. Amid the ongoing situation when everything is online, this decision of the government regarding the syllabus does come in handy and will ensure the reduction in the burden on students. The reduction is currently applicable for the academic year 2020-21 only.

The academic year kickstarted from June 15, 2020, and while at it, various measures of alternate learning are being worked upon, as was told by the minister.
