New Delhi: The NEET 2020 exams for many students is indeed quite the worrisome issue, and while the exams are going to be held as per schedule on September 13, 2020, there continue to be oppositions regarding the holding of these exams. As has been informed by the Medical Council of India, students traveling abroad for further studies will be allowed to give their NEET exams later, whenever they are held next.

This notice issued by the MCI comes post a Delhi High Court order post an MBBS aspirant sought permission to join college abroad given the admissions were due before September 15. As per the notice from MCI, since the results will not be out before the aforementioned date by the petitioner, to avoid loss of an academic year, this is an exemption in the face of a one time measure for all the aspirants like the petitioner, who are looking at studying abroad. None the less, while this is an exemption, they must fulfill all the other criteria.

In addition, the notice also states that these students will have to qualify for the NEET exams that take place later and the risk to continue their programmes abroad will be their own. This is only because those students who fail to make it through NEET will not be allowed to appear for the Screening Test and hence, will not be granted Provisional/Permanent Registration by the State Medical Councils. Meanwhile, these aspirants must also follow all the COVID-19 measures laid out by the government as far as traveling abroad is concerned.

While this comes as a welcome move for all, the debate around not conducting the NEET 2020 and JEE Main exams for this year continues to be a matter of concern. It was on August 17 that the SC dismissed any chances of postponing the exams, however, petitions and pleas continue to do the rounds as many urge the government to postpone national level entrance exams.
