New Delhi: The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has brought about extreme changes in the way education is being handled by the Universities, and hence, in order to help the students out, alterations are being made even in the process and criteria for admission into various institutes.

And now, the latest we hear is the change that has been made by The National Institute of Technology (NITs) in the criterion for admission. As was announced by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) earlier, NITs too, have decided to drop the criterion for performance in class 12. This exception is obviously a first and has been implemented by the NITs and also many other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).

The admission to the aforementioned institutes will no longer require the students to have a certain percentage/percentile. However, they simply have had to passed in the Board exams. In contrast to this, earlier, the students in general category were bound to have scored 75% in their boards or be in the top 20 percentile. The criteria for SC/ST candidates on the other hand, was that to have 65% or be in the top 20 percentile.

The decision for admission process for NITs is made by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has approved this procedure and admitted to doing away with the criterion for Board exams. The decision was announced by Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal via Twitter.

Given the fact that the Board exams weren’t as seamless as they are every year due to the COVID 19 virus in the country, this decision had to be taken. Also, many boards couldn’t conduct all of the exams for their students due to the rise in number of cases, and hence, this decision was inevitable, as has been informed by the sources.

The JEE(Main) will be conducted from September 1 to 6.
