New Delhi: The final year exams have been made mandatory now and as has been ruled out by the Supreme Court, the exams can be delayed but have to be conducted. None the less, it does leave the fate of many hanging as far as further education is concerned, and hence, the University Grants Commission has now advised universities to allow provisional admission across the various available undergraduate as well as the postgraduate programs until September, or beyond. Meanwhile, UGC also intends to revise the academic calendar for the same.

As per the recent reports, UGC has already written to the varsities as well as colleges conveying the same and allowed for provisional admission since the final year exams are likely to be conducted by then. The letter from UGC stated that the admission for the new session of 2020-21 may be completed by 31.08.2020 and if need be, provisional admission while documents needed may be accepted until 30.08.2020.

Apart from giving out necessary instructions regarding the admissions to UG and PG courses, it has also mentioned that the final year exams can no be conducted until September 2020 as the dates have been extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The letter adds that it is in the larger interest of all that this grant has been given. Hence, if students are otherwise eligible as per the norms of the institutes, they can be given permission until the revised guidelines are issued for the academic year. The provisional admission is only until September 30, 2020.
