New Delhi: The education system in India is about to witness a massive change with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. While this is only the first step in what seems to be a grand move, PM Narendra Modi went on to speak about how the concept of interdisciplinary studies is what is the most exciting thing about NEP. He went on to add how the policy is a mere reflection of the spirits that one size does not fit all approach.

At the Smart India Hackathon, he also revealed how the NEP is about bringing a change from mugging things up to promoting critical thinking and the focus will be on what the students want to learn. While shifting the control to the students, NEP will also enable flexibility and their goal with this system of learning is to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio to 50 percent by 2035.

While education is indeed something that needs a reform in India, the NEP also emphasizes on the idea of promoting job creators over job seekers. He further went on to say how this policy is in line with the aspirations of the youth of this century and hence, it is a reflection of what 130 crore Indians aspire.

Among other things, PM Narendra Modi also went on to highlight a concern that is ever so growing in the country, one where people are judged on the basis of a subject that might be of no interest to them and how there is always this constant pressure from the society, the parents, and others about selecting a subject just because it has been chosen by others.

He went on to add, “This approach has given a large population to the country, which is well-educated, but most of what they have read, it does not work.”
